vault and tugged them into the vaults. They were then lowered using hydraulic jacks.
The switchgear sets that had to be placed directly above the transformers were more difficult to install. They had to be lifted to the fifth floor and installed in the same way as the transformers, only on this level, the floor was set back 4 m (14 ft) from the exterior building line. Further complicating the delivery was the structural integrity of the switchgear. As one piece the unit cannot support its own weight when subjected to traditional methods of hoisting and setting through open-face buildings, window

apertures, etc
Galasso's rigging team, therefore, designed and built a special platform to bridge the gap between the outside of the building and the interior floor space. The units were lifted onto this platform and rolled in where they could be installed
Project manager Greg Galasso said that the team had been due to complete the installations in five days and had left a sixth day as a back up day to deal with any unforeseen complications. This was not needed, however, and the job was completed in four days.

Galasso Trucking & Rigging, Inc. was contracted to lift and set in the building six 18 tonne (20 US ton) transformers and ten strings of switchgear, each weighing 9 tonne (10 ton).
The transformers, supplied by ConEdison of New York, were transported directly to site where they were unloaded using Galasso's 250 tonne capacity Liebherr LTM 1250/1 wheeled mobile and then lifted into position.
The transformers were set in their respective vaults, along the building line on the fourth floor, 24 m (80 ft) above ground leel. The vaults were set back 3 m (10 ft) from the exterior building line, mking it difficult to place the transformers. The units had to be slightly angled to land them on the concrete curbs of the vaults.
